Changing Habits
When SIRIUS launched their three satellites in 2000, they changed the way people listened to the radio. Now they're changing the way we listen to SIRIUS. With an innovative blend of features that makes your listening even more enjoyable, the S50 satellite radio receiver/portable digital music player lets you take SIRIUS programming or MP3/WMA music files with you wherever you go. The built-in 1 GB memory stores SIRIUS content, or digital music files downloaded from your computer, or both up to a total of 50 hours of playback. You can listen to live SIRIUS programming only when the receiver is docked, but you can playback stored programming or digital music files any time for up to six hours with the built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. An FM modulator will transmit the S50's signal to any FM radio. A full range of included accessories keeps the entertainment coming whether you're hiking a trail or commuting in your car. SIRIUS Satellite Radio service (not included) requires subscription and activation fees. Service is not available in Hawaii or US Territories; there is limited service in Alaska.

Imagine over 120 choices with dozens and dozens of commercial-free digital-quality music channels playing the newest songs as well as old favorites, heart-stopping coverage of professional and college sports teams, national news broadcasters you trust, talk shows you rely on to inform and provoke, and even traffic and weather (selected major cities). You'll be able to hear every NFL game, all season long. To stay on top of the action, program Game Alert to let you know when your favorite team takes the field or scores. Listen to the home or away announcers, your choice. And a scrolling sports ticker displays the scores from the rest of the league.
It's Easy To Be In Control
The S50's large 1.38" x 1.75" full-color LCD screen displays everything you need to know, like current channel number, song or show, mode, status, recording, and more. The controls are located on both sides of the S50: volume and lock button are on the left; playlist, setup, rewind, fast-forward, and play/pause buttons on the right. On the car dock is the Media Dial, a multifunction control that is turned/pressed/tilted to make things happen. Turning the dial lets you to scroll through channels, genres, presets, menus, and lists. Pressing the dial selects the highlighted option on the display. Tilting the dial up, down, left, or right activates play/pause, Love Button (saves current song as a favorite), rewind, or fast-forward functions. Audio Navigation provides voice announcements when buttons are pressed or the Media Dial is used. You can turn Audio Navigation on or off in the setup menu. For even more controls than on the receiver/player, use the included wireless remote control for mute, channel up/down, plus a 10-key pad for direct channel tuning.
Memory Matters
With the S50's 1 GB built-in memory, you can store up to 50 hours of SIRIUS broadcasts, including individual songs or whole programs. You can save the song currently playing, or schedule the recording of an entire program. You can set the S50 to record future programs (from non-music channels only) and store them in memory. When scheduling a recording, you specify the channel, date, time, duration, and the frequency of recording (once, daily, Monday-Friday, or weekly). Scheduled recordings are limited to a maximum of 10, with a maximum of four hours per recording session and no more than 20 hours for all recordings. Scheduled recordings start and stop automatically; but the S50 must be docked, connected to a power source, connected to the antenna, and be receiving a good signal for the recording to be successful. Downloading MP3/WMA digital music files to the internal memory will reduce the amount of storage space available for SIRIUS content. You can check available memory capacity in the Content Management portion of the setup menu. The replay buffer lets you pause live SIRIUS programming. You can fast-forward or rewind through the buffer content; and when you get to the end, live broadcasting resumes.
Peruse Your Playlists
All the material you've stored in the S50's memory is organized into playlists for easy playback. My SIRIUS Channels is three playlists automatically created and containing songs or comedy from the three music and comedy channels you listen to most. Content from these channels is stored in playlists named after the channel name. Individual songs can't be browsed as a list. My SIRIUS Songs playlist contains individual songs saved from music channels. Songs and sets are grouped by genres for easy browsing. My SIRIUS Shows playlist contains news, sports, talk shows, and scheduled recordings grouped by subcategories named after the channel of origin. Sports games are saved in subcategories named by the sport; for example, My NBA zone or My NFL zone. My SIRIUS Playlists contains the MP3 and WMA audio files you download from your computer. You can design this category any way you wish, using the included My SIRIUS Studio software.
